چکیده

The occurrence of infectious diseases poses a significant threat to the aquaculture industry worldwide. Therefore, characterization potentially harmful pathogens is one most important strategies control disease outbreaks. In present study, we investigated for first time pathogenicity two Vibrio species, metschnikovii, foodborne pathogen that causes fatalities in humans, and areninigrae, bacteria isolated from black sand Korea, using crustacean model, signal crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus. Mortality challenges indicated injection V. metschnikovii (108 CFU/crayfish) has mortality percentage 22% crayfish. contrast, P. leniusculus with 108 or 107 CFU areninigrae resulted 100% within days post-injection, respectively. was successfully re-isolated hepatopancreas infected caused when reinjected into new healthy As consequence this infection, histopathological analysis revealed nodule formation hepatopancreas, heart, gills, as well sloughed cells inside hepatopancreatic tubules atrophy. Moreover, extracellular crude products (ECP’s) were obtained order investigate putative virulence factors. vivo ECP’s >90% mortalities 24 h. vitro hemocytes induced cytotoxicity hour exposure. These findings represent report highly pathogenic bacterium can cause crustaceans. On contrary, could not freshwater

Vibrio areninigrae sp. nov., a marine bacterium isolated from black sand.

A Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile, slightly curved rod-shaped bacterial strain was isolated from black sand collected from Soesoggak, Jeju island, Korea. The strain, designated J74T, was able to grow in the presence of 1-7.5 % NaCl, at temperatures of 4-45 degrees C and at pH 5-10. Strain J74T was oxidase- and catalase-positive, arginine dihydrolase-negative and sensitive to the ...

Genome Sequence of the Pathogenic Bacterium Vibrio vulnificus Biotype 3

We report the first genome sequence of the pathogenic Vibrio vulnificus biotype 3. This draft genome sequence of the environmental strain VVyb1(BT3), isolated in Israel, provides a representation of this newly emerged clonal group, which reveals higher similarity to the clinical strains of biotype 1 than to the environmental ones.

Occurrence of pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus in crustacean shellfishes in coastal parts of Eastern India.

AIM The objective of the study was to isolate and characterize pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus from crustacean shellfishes (crab and shrimp) commonly retailed in coastal parts of eastern India. MATERIALS AND METHODS Samples were processed by bacteriological isolation followed by biochemical characterization in Kaper's medium. Presumptively identified isolates were confirmed by species-spec...

Complete genome sequence of Vibrio fischeri: a symbiotic bacterium with pathogenic congeners.

Vibrio fischeri belongs to the Vibrionaceae, a large family of marine gamma-proteobacteria that includes several dozen species known to engage in a diversity of beneficial or pathogenic interactions with animal tissue. Among the small number of pathogenic Vibrio species that cause human diseases are Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio vulnificus, the only members of the Vibrion...

Iron-containing urease in a pathogenic bacterium.

Helicobacter mustelae, a gastric pathogen of ferrets, synthesizes a distinct iron-dependent urease in addition to its archetypical nickel-containing enzyme. The iron-urease is oxygen-labile, with the inactive protein exhibiting a methemerythrin-like electronic spectrum. Significantly, incubation of the oxidized protein with dithionite under anaerobic conditions leads to restoration of activity ...
